The President of Al-Furat Al-Awsat Technical University, Professor Dr. Mudhaffar Sadiq Al-Zuhairy, Monday, June 5, 2023, laid the foundation stone for the largest project in the history of the university, as a completion of the construction and reconstruction campaign launched by the university president in June 2019. The project consists of establishing a specialized research laboratory complex, which will represent a qualitative leap in research and scientific development in the Middle Euphrates region and Iraq in general.

During the cornerstone laying ceremony, the university’s president announced the start of the project implementation in light of the current orientations to stimulate scientific research, stressing that implementing this project will enhance the university’s status as a pioneering reference in the field of higher education and scientific research.

Al-Zuhairy also added that the aim of this huge project is to enhance the capabilities of scientific research and achieve the future vision of the university in knowledge production, where the complex will provide a typical research environment for researchers from professors, postgraduate students, and various technical specializations under the university’s umbrella.

The project, which is expected to open in the first half of 2024, includes a number of specialized laboratories equipped with the latest devices and equipment to conduct experiments and research in various technical fields such as engineering, medical, health, agriculture, materials science, advanced materials, environment, clean and renewable energy.

Al-Zuhairy, in his speech for the members of the university board and a number of department managers who attended the laying of the foundation stone ceremony, stated that the research laboratory complex will be available to all students and researchers inside and outside the university, as the university believes in partnership and integration with all state institutions to serve the community.
