The Chancellor Al-Furat Al-Awsat Technical University, Prof. Dr. Mudhaffar Sadiq Al-Zuhairy, announced that the University had achieved an advanced position in the latest edition of the WeboMetrics ranking.
The University’s website ranked (12) among (89) Iraqi public and private universities, and it came first among the Iraqi’s technical universities.
The Webometrics Ranking website (www.webometrics.info/en/Asia/Iraq) showed the results of the January 2022 edition, which covered more than thirty-one thousand educational institutions worldwide. Compared to the previous ranking edition July 2021, the new edition shows an increase in the number of Iraqi ranked universities and colleges, with seven institutions added to the ranking.
The main objective of the WeboMetrics ranking is to enhance open access to the knowledge generated by the University. The best strategy to improve the University’s rank in this classification is to improve the quantity and quality of the website’s contents.
Prof. Al-Zuhairy also indicated that the WeboMetrics ranking depends on four criteria:
• PRESENCE: This represents the standard for disseminating general knowledge in society, which has 5% of the overall score weight. The number of pages is calculated on the University’s main website, and this includes all subdomains that share the same web domain atu.edu.iq.
• VISIBILITY: This represents the criterion for the impact of the contents of the site, which dominate 50% of the overall score weight. The number of (sub-networks) that link to the University’s web pages.
• TRANSPARENCY: This indicates the number of the researchers who are the most cited the criterion has 10% of the overall score weight, thereby calculating the number of citations among the top 110 researchers.
• EXCELLENCE: This indicates the number of published scientific researches with high impact. The criteria score 35% of the overall weight.
The Chancellor of the University congratulates all members and students of the University for this achievement and appreciates the efforts of everyone who contributed in one way or another to obtaining this position, including professors, researchers, technicians, administrators, and university leaders, especially the Department of the Scientific Affairs, the university IT department, the university Media & Public Relations and those working on the main website of the University and its faculties.
